About Paul Bilbro

Before I even knew how to spell “artisan,” I loved building things and the more I built, the more I discovered my natural talent for it. So when it came time for college it was easy for me to choose my major, and before I could say “granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances,” I was the proud recipient of a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management. After working for a few companies specializing in hospital and office-building construction, I felt a bit uneasy, as if I’d made a mistake. Then I realized why: I didn’t become a contractor to work in boring brick buildings. I became a contractor to improve the lives of homeowners, to turn their dreams into realities, to transform their houses into homes. So I got my general contractor’s license, started Artisan Remodeling and Repair, and the rest is history.

Renovation: Where to Start

getting the most from your home renovation projectYour renovation project may very well be guided by how much you can spend; however, even with a small budget your home will offer many areas where you can improve the feel, appearance, and value of the residence.

A small budget might warrant a look at cosmetic improvements or replacing features like kitchen cabinet doors, hardware, and fixtures.

Getting a Return on Investment (ROI)

You might be motivated to conduct a renovation based upon the need to improve the home’s value in advance of selling or taking out a home equity line of credit. According to “U.S. News,” some renovations are classic investment projects while other projects are best suited for homeowners who don’t plan to move for several years.

Basement Remodeling Tips to Help You Avoid Mistakes and Pittfalls

Avoiding Basement Remodel Mistakes and Blunders

basic basement remodeling tips to help you avoid common mistakes and pitfallsTo add more square feet onto the average house, many homeowners today look down instead of up or out, and this means finishing a basement. The dark, scary, and cobweb-ridden basements of yesterday are nothing like today’s awesome entertainment spaces, extra bedrooms, and playrooms.

Basement Mistakes and Project Enthusiasm

However, if you get too excited about your remodeling and improvement project, you might fall victim to some common basement mistakes. Transforming your wet, dirty basement into a warm and inviting space requires planning and talks with your contractor about items like code, insulation, structural integrity, and the threat of water.

Seems complex and overwhelming, but a good plan will make any significant and complicated basement remodeling project run like clockwork.

Get a Midwinter Jump-Start on Your Remodeling! (Remodeling Fort Collins)

winter remodeling fort collinsYes, it’s the middle of winter, and the colder weather has probably put a stop to your remodeling, Fort Collins—at least the ones that involve working outdoors. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be thinking ahead. Why not get a jump-start on spring? Take time now, to walk around the house, or look out your windows, and dream big….

Is it time to consider upgrading your living room…perhaps some beautiful distressed wood floors, with an elegant polished-stone apron in front of that nice warm fireplace?
  • Yes, you have your grill tucked away for the winter, but where does it live in warmer weather? Rather than have it taking over part of your well-manicured lawn, why not construct an outdoor cooking space, […]
